Four of these Trams were built in the MMTB Preston Workshops in 1930, 610 to 613. There was one solitary Y Class tram 469. They were built with the intention of evaluating one-man operation. Due to their higher cost and Union resentment, the MMTB resorted to the proven W Class tram design. All Y and Y1 classes were withdrawn from regular passenger service in 1965 and transferred to the Driver training school at Hawthorn Depot. All cars are preserved in various museums in Australia. Two sheets of ruled paper (blue horizontal lines, red vertical lines - from a financial ledger?) prepared giving a list of Rolling stock operated by the M&MTB in Feb. 1945. Gives class of tram, car numbers, number in service, type, capacity, trucks, wheel and truck centres, motor type and horsepower, tare, controller type, compressor type and length over bumpers and some notes on disposals. Trams tramways Map MMTB Tourist Trams Y Class VR Cable Trams ...Folded map (5 x 3) by Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board, c1927, of Melbourne tramways, showing tram routes (cable, electric and VR), railway lines, major points of interest and major streets. Titled "Routes and Time tables showing first and last cars". On rear shows maps of lines for the Eastern, Southern, Connection to Beaches and the Essendon, Maribyrnong and West Coburg lines. Dated c1927, shows the St Kilda Road lines to electric. On the bottom right hand corner has a reference to the Tramway Tourist Car - and the tours it does. (Reg Item 800 dated March 1927, shows the tram under construction). Each page has scanned to a pdf file. Page 1 - newspaper cutting and two photos of Ballarat No. 27 completing 1,000,000 miles. Item from "A Place in the Sun" written by Keith Dunstan. Photo of tram 27 by the Ballarat Courier. Date of Photo. 29/6/1968, taken prior to the TMSV Tour of that date. Black and white photograph of a group of the passengers on No. 27 during the celebration of the tram reaching 1,000,000 (million) miles in Ballarat. Glenys George, Brian Weedon, John Fitzsimons, Graeme Turnball, Paul Nicholson, Barry George and Kevin Clark. Page 2 - black and white photograph of Geelong Nos 2, 8, 4, 1 and another 4 wheel tramcar and a open cab motor bus photographed within the interior of Geelong depot, prior to 1924. From notes provided by David O'Neill, 12/2003, advises that bus driver is either Bill Hamaling or Charles Stafford. Gentlemen next to No. 8 could be Vic Phipps.
